  St. Bernard  Youth Ministry Core Team =Peer Ministry

Peer ministry is…

The courage to believe

The compassion to serve

The commitment to lead

Warning: Your involvement in Core Team ministry will change lives – beginning with your own

Who are they?  The Youth Ministry Core Team!

Charlie Alvidrez, Elizabeth Amaya, Taryn Beard, Marlena Blankas, Anthony Gonzalez, Luis Pozo, Isaac Rizo, Ashley Scheuring, Lydia Tovar, Miguel Vintimilla and Kathryn Violago.  These young people make the decisions for Youth Activities at St. Bernard.  They meet twice a month to plan activities, pray for the youth community and keep accountable to each other in their faith walk.  If you have any suggestions or questions for these young people you can find them on FaceBook!

WHAT IS THE St. Bernard Youth Ministry CORE TEAM?

St. Bernard’s Youth Ministry (SBYM) Core Team is a Peer Leadership Team open to all high school students.

  • Core Team members are not afraid to lead by example;

  • they are committed to helping and supporting their peers;

  • they are willing to live as disciples in service to others and to their communities;

  • they seek to grow in their relationship with God and with one another.

What is expected of SBYM Core Team members? What kind of commitment is required?

Being a member of the SBYM Core Team requires a serious commitment to leadership – and therefore to service – much as being a member of the student council at school does or being part of a sports team or band.  Your friends and peers, the parish staff, and the larger parish community are depending on you to be creative and come up with new ideas, to plan events and projects, and to be the voice of the young church.

All Core Team members are asked to commit to:

·         attendance at and participation in two meetings per month,  for  problem solving, event planning, peer-to-peer faith sharing and accountability to team for faith walk.

·         active participation in the parish Confirmation program and/or in a parish ministry (such as music ministry, serving as a Eucharistic minister or lector, teaching in the confirmation , youth ministry or Jr. High Program, tutoring program or prayer ministry, etc.). (at least two times a month)

·         participation in a scheduled Core Team weekend retreat.

What’s in it for you?

·         All of the positive feelings that come with helping others and serving your community!
·         The leadership skills you will learn and apply as a member of this team are skills that you will be able to put with confidence on every college, employment, and scholarship application for years to come.
·         Unlimited opportunities to make a difference in the lives of your friends and peers – whether by quietly listening to what they have to say or by actively helping them through a difficult time.
·         New experiences and friends, memories that will last a lifetime, challenges that will inspire growth, a deepening understanding of faith, and  celebrations of a job well done – all are yours for the taking!

Overwhelmed?  Sound like too much?You can start out being an Leader in Training (LIT)Help us behind the scenes as support staff as you discern your call to be a leader.  You will need to attend the meetings as your schedule permits, working with Nancy to make sure of times and dates.  Please complete all the same forms and label it Leader in Training (LIT)
